Dangerous Books

(Un)relaxeddad tagged Suroor for “dangerous” meme; and Suroor tagged me. He says “Books are dangerous” for books make you do things. Anyway i dont really believe that books can be that much dangerous. They can be motivation, yet that’s related to person, how much can be influanced by them!

Total number of books?

Much more than what you think. Now I exactly don’t know how many books I have. Maybe More than 4000 books. Who knows?

Last book read?

Symphony Of The Dead by Abbas Maroufi .. I almost read it 3 times. Just bcs his language of writing is abit difficult. The original book is in persian, yet it has some translations. ( I am sure about English and Dutch)

Woman And Her Rights in Islam by Murtaza Mutahari

And

The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood

Last book bought?

La Spartizione (Division) by Piero Chiara.. I bought a farsi translation of the book..

and

The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood

Five meaningful books?

Really that was very very very very very difficult for me to choose just 5 books. My list always change, so i can not say these books are my forever meaningful list. Just for now..

1. Light Within Me by Murtaza Mutahari

2. Hajj (Pilgrimage) by Ali Shariati

3. Gharbzadegi: Weststruckness by Jalal Aal-e-ahmad

4. Spiritual Discourses By Murtaza Mutahari, spc the Discourse number two: School of Humanity

5. Nahj Al-Balaghah Sermons, Letters, Sayings of Ali Bin Abitaleb

    Hi Shahrzad! *waves* :D

Hmm… the idea that books can be dangerous stems from the perception that we allow ourselves to be influenced by them instead of the other way around. I’ll admit people with a naive outlook to life can be negatively influenced by what they read. In their case if it wasn’t the book it would have been something else. So, can’t blame books. Books are what they are. If a particular book resonates thats because it corresponds to something already within.

I’ll have to find Robber Bride and read it. Been hearing a lot about it.

    Miss you Sweetest :)

YES some books are extremely dangerous and many governments have a list of some books that are black listed and not allowed to circulate. The surprising thing is that this is not only the case in the so called Third World Countries but also in the capital of the FREE world the USA. Try to publish a book in there denying the holocausts story as told in the western media and see if any publisher will even give you an appointment to discuss your book; such a book is considered dangerous because it opens the mind of the masses into the possibility of giving the story a second thought. Many writers got prison sentences for writing such dangerous books !! however when rushdi wrote his novel satanic verses he was welcomed with open arms in the west and with life threats in the east.. Again a book is defined as dangerous if it challenges the rise of the Big Brother theology in this New World Order intellectual arena arena.
Wait and see one day when the west point a finger at the Holy Quran and label it as DANGEROUS; after all Allah in it asks Muslims to remain aware and cautious about the ill feelings of the jews against Muslims and it speaks of them in a manner that will not be accepted by those who are trying to raise them to the top of the world. Already we hear calls for a new world order version of the Quran.

Bubbles, bbZuSh, Ummabdurrahman, Every one of you is wanna enter in this game, is free to join. I sincerely just wanted to tag some names there.

Xavier, that’s wonderful view about books and the world. You are right. Some books are dangerous really for some group.
I already heard that calls of ordering new version of Quran. Several months ago i found kind of site. And Also there is a wrong translation of Quran by a Baha’i. Who almost removed some verses.
What a world.. You know? Interesting that when you ask some people why nobody even can dare to research about Holoucaust, they never give you a logical answer. Just defending blindly, and even threat you, to close your mouth when its going to tell the truth!

Margaret Atwood is an interesting lady :)

  10. Sumera Says:

    I love books :)

  11. Xavier Says:

It is EID tomorrow.. I extend my best wishes for Eid Mubarak to all Muslims.. May Allah bless you all.

  12. Shahrzad Says:

Xavier, lol You could wait abit, i wanted to have an entry for Eid. Now you have to say happy Eid once again in my Eid entry too! :D

  13. (un)relaxeddad Says:

Thanks for playing – I loved the Robber Bride as well. I should add that my definition of ‘dangerous’ was a good deal more playful (though knowingly so) than Xavier’s. I’d like to comment further on what Xavier said but feel it would be a bit a rude (it’s your “house”, Shahrzad, and I shouldn’t start fights in it…)

  14. Xavier Says:

I cannot help noticing how some people know before hand that their opinions in reply to someone else’ idea should “start fights..”
Now this is how DANGEROUS words to those who don not accept the other side of the story can be !! When the western media purposely insulted the respected prophet of Islam the whole western world stood firm in defense of the right of anyone for FREE EXPRESSION.. ye true, free expression of hatred and tailored insults, however “insulting” a zio-nazi occupying the land of others and oppressing its people may raise hell .. Hypocrisy at large.

  15. Shahrzad Says:

(un)relaxeddad, I dont see anything weird or unreal in Xavier’s words. He said what he believes. And you could say what you believe if that’s logical.. If you have logical reason for being against his words, you could tell them respectfully. When a human has logic, i dont think his answer needs to be rude or fight! Does it?!!

  16. Barbara Says:

Hello Shahrzad, and thank you so much for sharing these 5 selections you consider among the best of your thousands of books. I love to read and am always looking for ‘good valuable’ books to read…especially about Allah and His love. I tend to spend an average of $200 a month on books (usually used, that way I can get more for my money) and I also trade books I didn’t like so much at used book stores. As for books being dangerous, I guess it’s where our interests lie and I firmly believe in that saying “you are what you seek”. And Xavier, for those who have hate in their hearts as the ’skin heads’ [neo-nazi], I see a lot of them in the jails and how they treat Hispanics as myself and Muslims.

  17. Barbara Says:

Hello Shahrazad, I wanted to thank you again for your list of good books. I was able to find 3 and ordered them…some were out of print, but I found them used.

I re-read over and over “Last Moments of Being Blessed” about the butterfly and finally just printed it out…just BEAUTIFUL! (my ‘friend of the fire’ is a gorgeous blessing from Iran)

Let me share a little “Unending Love” by Tagore, hope you enjoy

  18. Shahrzad Says:

Barbara, Thank you for your nice words and that nice link. Here in my meaningful list, 4 links of 5 links give you a free ebook of the book. You can easily download them, if you use ebooks.
I insist you to read the Hajj by Shariati (i mentioned in the list). Dr Shariati discuss Hajj in its philosophical and gnostic aspects and really beautifully written. I know you will love it.
And good that you found 3 books already. If you want any help, feel free to ask..
About butterfly story, i will explain in its post.
Sorry for my delaying to answer :)
