He plays with the papers by his fat hands and looks at them for awhile. Then arrogantly turns his head toward me and says: “Why you participated in construction drawing class??”
I wonder. Taking one of that serious Shahrzadi face, I tell him:”Nothing. I just wanna learn. Is there any problem?”
He put his fat hand on his big tummy and laughs loudly: “Funny!”
- Why?!!
It seems he is not that much patient to answer my Questions. So writes something with a pen on a paper. And rest on his chair. We both seem serious in our discussion. So he tries not to look at me. Turning his face to other man who was in the office:” You know, Mr V! Sometimes I wonder how women dare to enter in men’s world. It needs much knowledge to be in society. Every person has a duty as well. Men outside, women at home.”
And suddenly he thinks his words are very cute. So again starts to laugh.
I am completely familiar with kind of reactions. I know kinds of men so well. When I wanted to start working in the lab, there was a man like him, who used to think that a physicist woman should just stay at home and work on her own. No chance to work in the lab. But I made him ashamed anyway. Now again he is same version.
I don’t know why some men are like this. As long as in Islam there is no ban to learn and educate, and also it is regarded for women to learn more, i really can not get from where they think knowledge is just created for men. Sometimes even women come and defend kind of idea and try to stop you from what you enjoy, learning..
It is a fact that usually women do many jobs more accurate than men. They are more ordered and spc in Artifical field, they are more successful. For example construction drawing. I think it is kind of art.
I am not kind of women who think they have to take their rights from men. And i am not kind of women who think they must be silent, bcs women are not powerful.
I am just in love with learning. Same like so many women around the world who are in love with learning. But patriarchy wants them to be ignorant.
I am just in love with art. Very much. Also my imaginative physicist mind helps me to be good in this field. I just love to learn it. And it is good reason to do a job. Nobody can stop a woman from learning just bcs she is a woman. It is kind of ignorance. I think a woman can stay feminine and knowledgeable. And if some men fight at the idea, that’s bcs they are afraid of knowledgeable feminine woman. for kind of women are very strong. When women are not educated, they are ignorant about their rights in law and religion. Less headache for some men maybe.
I am not feminist. I am not racist. I am not fighting with any gender. I just wanna be who really i am, and live my life based on my choices. That’s why I take a breath and start to fill the forms and pay for first month of class: “I am ready that you show me the class. Thank you.” He doesn’t expect that I dare to do that: “Let me show you.. Lady!” He says while he is coughing.
The class is full of men. Mean I am the only woman there. He starts to teach the lessons one by one, and we draw on papers. After awhile I am the first person who finish the plans.
He takes my plans and shakes his head:” You ever passed kind of courses?” I answer:” No, never.” He again checks the plans: “But it is very exact. You did it with the least error. You estimate very good. How you can do it?”
I just smile and say:”Easily.. Simply, Bcs I am woman!“
This blog offers a glimpse into the life of an Iranian woman and her honest view on world affairs and issues which concerns her country, Iran.

Its sad that we have to go through this…Really. Allah swt said we are equal in front of Him, the one who has more taqwa is better, no matter man or woman. But let them. We are showing them, slowly but strongly
good job sis

Beautiful story Shahrazad! I have seen homes where architects who were men made the kitchens on the second floors of the floorplans…only a woman who knows the logic of positioning one room to another would know since she is the one who goes to the market, takes out trash and what is needed in the home would know that it’s simply logical to make the kitchen on th ground floor? Your class work doesn’t surprise me at all! Enjoy your class (I graduated as an interior designer…I was 28-years-old when I started studying in the university). The more we learn, the more we realize there is SOOOOO much to learn. Good for you!

Oh, and by the way, there are now (2) “TWO” women presidents in South America right now…what does that say about balance? Aren’t our baby boys nourished through our blood when in the womb, breast fed once born, and then “mommy” is the most beautiful sight a baby can behold! I read somewhere, “teach a woman and you teach many, teach a man, and you teach just one”

I think men feel threatened because Women can do an “outside career” with the same success as a men, but men can never have the same touch a woman does within the home. Therefore women are capable of doing more than men and it threatens them; they want to keep us out of “their” world because it makes them feel more secure.

Its not surprising some men dont want women in their “field” of work because the sense of mastery they feel from their job, work, or whatever is what makes them feel “manly” – yes some people are as sad as that.
