A Womb For Hire

She will arrive soon. In the same way “me” and “you” came. But there is a little difference between us. Is that matter in the Uranium era? Is that matter in the period of time that death is just an easiest event for many? No matter what, at least that’s a birth. No matter if her arrival is result of an agreement. I mean a “Contract”.

Jamilah calls her, Bahar. Bahar in Persian means spring. At least that’s what she likes to call her:”Bahar is my daughter.

Bahar will come with spring and will go forever: “What can I do? What could I do? My children are orphans. They have no dad. That’s night of Persian New Year. Me and my two little orphans. Being a maid can not make meals for my children. Now everything is God’s will. Indead He wanted i find this solution.

And she looks at the roof, which still has smell of fresh polish on it. And Bahar will come and go with spring. To a place that she will never know meaning of orghan. That’s fate maybe. I don’t know.

But You’re right. The story is unclear. Like this story should be always in unclarity. Nobody should be aware. It must always remain a secret. Yet We are not playing a puzzle here. So I clarify for you. That’s my story:”Her womb is for hire!

The story is related to years ago. When hole of Ozone layer was not as big as now. Those years there was no sale or purchase. But there were People out there whose mouth always used to work very well: “She can not be pregnant. You know?

If problem was with man, it would be always hidden. Bcs it was such a shame for men. So his wife had to suffer all sarcasms to hide her husband’s disability. She would live with him, she would be loyal. Good or bad, sweet or bitter life.

But when wife was infertile, then she had to make a sense. She would find another wife for her husband, bcs she didn’t want him to do it behind her. Or just bcs she had to be nice. Rival wife was a disaster, but remarriage was not sin.

However, Nowadays people are open minded. They are modern. When people are modern, a crowded house with lots of children will not be symbol of success for them. But it doesn’t mean they don’t want children. After 3rd anniversary, people are still those people whose mouth always work very well: “Almost half and a year ago, one of those women I used to work for her as maid, offered this suggestion. She talked about a young couple who are infertile. Their problem is more than a simple artificial impregnation in the laboratory. Fetus could not resist in Woman’s womb. So They need a home for fetus to live in for nine months. They need a womb.

And you know rest of the story. Jamilah gave her womb for hire. I mean they hired her womb. And since that time they pay for her and children. They gave her money so she could polish the house, buy new clothes for children and a new stove. When spring comes, she will fufill their dream. An end point for story. She will give them Bahar..

Spring will come and they’ll go forever; Mom, Dad and Bahar. Jamilah knows they will choose other name for her. But she likes to call her Bahar. She will never meet her again.

Definitely Jamilah will miss Bahar. But she knows that Bahar does not stay child forever. She will grow up. She will become a young beautiful lady and should not find out the reality.

So they’ll go, far away. And people will not dare to disturb luckiness with their sarcasm.

Moreover?

ID card doesn’t need to be very honest. Let Bahar be lucky with her parents in ID card. No matter if her being is result of an agreement. At least that’s a birth. Is That matter in the Uranium era?

The rest is a mom, with two orphans whose life is easier now. Appreciating God for His generosity, with new clothes and smell of fresh polish on the walls, they’re willingly waiting for New Year, for spring. Jamilah says: “Thanks God!

i dont know if i could ever be a jamilla . I would always feel a part of me is missing

  2. Shahrzad Says:

Anon, Jamilah will feel same of course. Even if Bahar is result of artificial impregnation, but she is fed from Jamilah’s body. Every pregnancy makes woman very weak. And it is what can hurt Jamilah in the future..

This is a sad, tragic story. Beautiful written. My heart goes out to women like Jamilah who do the best they can to provide for their families with limited, painful choices.

  4. Shahrzad Says:

pistolpete, Thank you for your comment. I know many women in Jamilah’s situation who choose the easiest way and go through very wrong way. She really did great job for her family, I also think Jamilah should be praised such a mom for Bahar. At least she is who gives birth to Bahar..Money doesnt treat her pain..

How hard must it be to give what literally is your children you’ve nurtured away

Very sad, and it goes on all over the world. My prayers are with the mothers and the children.

Sister your stories are really nice, masha Allah. I was wondering if you could write a story that has a death theme…like a story written in first person (i.e. meaning you) regarding your own death. How do you think it would be?

I want to see if you can do this…few can… :S

    Keep it up!

    Sumera, Indead..

Darvish, I really pray life gets easier for them. Being a single mom is not easy at all..

Dawud Israel, Thank you for your comment. Bale, Farsi mikhoonam va minevisam :)
I have kind of stories too. Usually writing story in third party is more difficult and more professional. My characters are real, i mean i met them before.
There is a post here about death in first person: http://shahrzaad.wordpress.com/2007/12/01/do-you-forget-shahrzad-someday-forever/

Zios, i Know what you mean. In Iran this science of pregnancy is very advanced. But would be good if women like Jamilah “at least” be praised such a mom. We have in Quran that Who gives birth to child, is his real mom.
And they also give happiness to a family..
