Achelois, Tia and Abdul tagged me on the book meme. Thank you for including me.
here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages)
2. Open the book to page 123
3. Find the 5th Sentence.
4. Post the next 3 sentences
5. Tag 5 people
I was looking for the nearest book(s). My way of reading is very strange. I usually start some different books together so i dont feel confuced with a routine way of reading. Right now, if i raise my hand, i can take “Freedom” by Muhammad Misbah Yazdi, “Toward understanding Islam” by Muwdudi, “Quantum Mechanics” by W.Greiner, “Martyrdom, Arise and Bear Witness” By Dr Ali Shariati and the Holy Quran.
Finally i chose “The Perfect Man” by Dr Murtaza Mutahhari:
“ What is human pain? It does not mean only physical pain. It is a pain considered sacred by mystics and is peculiar to human beings and for this reason, a human being is preferable to an angel, for, an angel is free from pain. That human pain is the pain of seeking God.
Man is a reality produced by divine breath in another world, and is not wholly homogeneous with the things of this world. He has a feeling of strangeness and alienation with all other creatures here since they are all changeable and perishable and not worthy of attachment.
Man, however, has a perpetual anxiety, and this is what draws him towards devotion and worship of God, communion with Him, and proximity to Him, as his origin.”
I also wondered what will be the result in the Holy Quran. It was the Sura Al Maeda(from my Quran):
97. Allah made the Ka’ba, the Sacred House, an asylum of security for men, as also the Sacred Months, the animals for offerings, and the garlands that mark them: That you may know that Allah has knowledge of what is in the heavens and on earth and that Allah is well acquainted with all things.
I tagged Unique Muslimah, Johnnypeepers , Bosnian Leila , Organica and anyone who want to be tagged.
And the last words: It’s Snowing here

Wow this book meme thing is amazing! Your passage from “The Perfect Man” is delightful and eerie at the same time. As this was my ‘train’ of thought this evening. Freaky…….SubhanAllah! I am well into “Rumi’s Daughter” by Muriel Maufroy at the moment so you can understand my feelings at this moment

Leila, Welcome
Waiting to see yours.
Ammar, Thank you. Unfortunately that’s most important problem in the muslim world that they usually try to know about Quran via scholars and they dont try to study it by own.
Sumera,
Good so you understand me. I hope others dont think our mind is messy! lol

ooh I really lke Murtaza Muttahari’s discourses, I have a huge collection which I should read at some point, I recently read ‘man and animal’ … which I am sure you must have read too.
February 17, 2008 at 10:08 am
Tia, yes his discourses are wonderful. All his books were some talks that he used to offer in university for students. I like logic of his talks.
I finished reading his all books when i was teenager (14 or 15 yrs old). Yes i know that Man and Animal. He has a series of books all about humanity name as “perfect man”, “Man and universe”, “Man and Faith”, “Man and Quran”, “Man and destiny”, etc. He is also master of Islamic Philosophy. I think his books are a “must” read ones. I have english e.copy of his books. If you like i share with you. Good to have a look.
