Scars Of War In Iran

Iranians in West and south of Iran remember a history of bloodshed and war. Even if this upcoming Iranian new year -20 March- will be the 10th year of ending the war (Iraq-Iran), some scars have not been treated yet. Scars like depressions, children of war, people who have lost part of their family, demolished houses, unemployment, cancers result of chemical bombs, etc. You can add mines and bombs too which hiddenly live under the ground. Even if many of them got inactive.

These fotos are of those lands. I remember when i traveled there, i could feel a hidden pain remained of those years which i know will never be forgotten. I think they understand people of war more. Iranians do not seek war. They are very tired of all these debates. They want to live in peace and use their brain for making a good and independent country.

Its getting almost a costum in Iran during last month of Iranian year, in the middle of March. Some Iranians make some caravans and travel to those lands, in remembrance of their victims of war. It’s true that years have passed. But still there are many bullets, mines and bombs in those lands which are hidden under the ground and after years have gotten outwore, very sensitive and dangerous.

I personally dont have any problem with remembering something. But just last year some Medicine university students got murdered and some injured. I don’t know what’s the need to bring them to some dangerous places which are not cleaned of scars. They are even getting their victims of the local people in south and western provinces. It proves that even if a war will be ended someday, but its scars will get more victims in the future and tears will never end.

Four days to New Year here, exactly the first day of spring, I just said this post as one of costums some Iranians have before new year. There are many words to say about Iranian New year and traditions related to it. Wait for next posts.

Dearest Shahrazad, war is always a sad affair for all involved, in the end there are no ‘winners’, because everybody involved in one way or another lose. We women teach our children to love, we are the first they love when they’re babies, and some how we have to find the power through love to bring peace back to men. And VERY HAPPY Norooz to you and your loved ones. I know each item in Iran for New Year starts with an “S” and they all have their special signifcance….PEACE BE WITH YOU AND ALL HUMANITY!

I don’t know why but I always wanted to go to Iran. It seems to be a very beautiful country. All the Iranians I’ve met so far are the nicest people in the World. I wish you and your country all the best.

The world is just a large cesspit. Nothing we can do about its state

War is a hateful thing. Especially a meaningless war, initiated by a tyrant with no regard for the lives of his people , let alone his enemies.
War is sad, regardless on which side you are on. And the memories and bitterness never goes away for those who lost loved ones.
May Allah never subject us to this kind of trial.

There is an American saying, “There are no atheists in foxholes.” (A foxhole is a depression scooped out of the earth to allow a soldier to get his head below the blast line of explosions). It has always been taken to mean that, in combat, the participants inevitably implore the mercies that faith in a deity compels them to seek. Another interpretation might be that those without faith in a supernatural prime mover, having no illusions of heavenly rewards to the believer, are less likely to initiate, and not at all likely to volunteer for any of God’s favorite sides (which every side, we notice, claims for itself).

I hope that whatever provident force there may be will spare you and your neighbors further abuse by the martial activities of the believers on every side.

War is a terrible thing! Win or loose, you aren’t spared the pain. Nobody is; especially in this age where there are no rules.

[...] For we Americans, living in relative security in a country where we are waging war halfway around the world, 9/11 notwithstanding, I found Shaharazad has a timely, poignant, and beautifully written post on the Scars of War In Iran. [...]
