These photos remind me that Islam really does live throughout the whole world, in peace and glory, at least here in these mosques, which are, indeed, the most beautiful in the world. I hope to visit some of them before my earthly life is over. I’ve seen Masjid al Haram, in Mecca, many times, and it is most beautiful. I ‘ve been blessed to have seen the Umayyid Mosque in Damascus, and the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul. Thank you for collecting thse magnificent photos.

I’ve visited Masjid al Haram, in Mecca, the Umayyid Mosque in Damascus, the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul and the Great Mosque of Cordoba , Spain.
Beautiful pictures, great post.
April 20, 2008 at 9:44 pm
I wonder what is the state of heart/mind of the architects, workers, engineers who are involved in these projects. The sense of achievement must be much higher then usual.
My personal favorite is the great Qurtaba or Cordaba mosque of Spain. And the sad part is no Muslim is allowed to offer prayers in it.
@ Shahrzad
have you read Allama Iqbal’s famous poem on this mosque?
April 20, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Marahm, Welcome. You remind us a good point. Still there are many beautiful masjids that i didnt post. Sultan Ahmad mosque is in my list to do visit.
~W~, Thank you. Along with Umayyad, Masjid al Haram and Imam mosque, i visited Khatam Al Anbiya masjid in Beirut too. I wish i can travel to spain someday. Alot to see there.
aMmAr, Sure it is. That’s why in Islamic architecture, always masjid comes to be the most beautiful place. I’ve not heard that poem. Share with us here..

Assalamu’alaikum
Great posting. I plan to visit King Hassan Mosque in Casablanca on my way back soon. I am from Malaysia, so I had visited Ubudiah Mosque in Kuala Kangsar, Malaysia.
Hope you continue your great posting Thank you
April 21, 2008 at 1:41 am
yes: you’re ending up in my Akismat at the moment.
I know you’re surprised but I haven’t been to the mosque at Cordoba yet. If you go to Spain we’ll go together! and to the Alhambra too. I didn’t know muslims aren’t allowed to pray there! That seems very weird. Just pretend you’re catholic! And drop your handbag, or something.
I love the blue mosque in Istanbul, and the Khatam al Ambiya in Beirut. and the masjid al Haram in Mecca.
April 21, 2008 at 6:40 am
That is a beautiful post. Thanks!
April 21, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Haha I couldn’t believe when I saw the Canterbury mosque there, that’s where I usually go for Friday prayers (well it is the only mosque here). It is very tiny, but how cool is it to have a mosque in a city called “Christchurch”.
Oh and you can add the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, it is very impressive in my opinion.

Aafke, Ah i believe you. Just wait i take this netherland VISA. LOL
Achelois, Thank you.
Ali, Waw, what a mosque is Sultan Qabus. Is that in Oman? Its very beautiful. It has the largest carpet and largest chandelier in the world.
AnywayI know i lost many other beautiful mosques in my post.
I searched for a mosque in Australia. But i just found a historical prayer room. Is there any mosque in Australia? I would like to find a mosque in US too..
April 21, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Ali, those are awsome photos!
Shahrazad: I give you a link to this great photo of a mosque in Hollnad, nothing spectacular, but so weird: dutch houses, dutch cyclist, and an oriental building!

Aafke, Waw its beautiful aafke. Interesting how they make mosque based on the common architecture of the region. Very interesting indeed. Like the mosque in China, is completely chinese style.

Thanks for this beautiful post!
I had the utmost pleasure to see three of them …
1 - the “Imam Mosque” in Isfahan,
2 - the “Blue Mosque” in Istanbul, and
3 - the “Al Aqsa Mosque” as well as the “Dome of the Rock” in Jerusalem.
All of them are absolute FANTASTIC and of mindboggling beauty!
Are you upset if I clarify something? The picture you show is NOT the “Al Aqsa Mosque” in Jerusalem … it shows the magnificent “Dome of the Rock” or “Qubbat al Saccara”! (I did post once about it).
Both are located only some (I’m bad in guessing) 100 meters apart on the “Temple Mount” or “Haram as Sharif”!
April 21, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Karin, Thank you for clarifying. I knew that Ghubba Al Sakhrah is not a mosque. But i just like its architecture more than Al Aqsa mosque which is almost next to it. I would like to visit both of them someday insha’allah.
April 21, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Hehe unfortunately we can’t with our passport Shahrzad, at least not in this time and age.
Oh and the Grand Mosque is in Muscat, Oman.. it’s actually very close to my house
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) both records have been since surpassed by Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheikh_Zayed_Mosque
It looks amazing , I only saw it from far away and that was while it was still under construction.
Oh and for a list of mosques in NZ: http://www.fianz.co.nz/islamiccentres_content.php#chc
(couldn’t really find good pictures of the mosques)
April 21, 2008 at 5:28 pm

April 21, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Ali, Where you can not travel with your passport? Australia you mean, or Palestine?
Thank you so much for links. I like Zayed mosque too.
Haleem, I know that mosque. My uncle sent me some fotos of that. Amazing.
Here the link: http://www.shajasa.com.my/travel/images/putrajaya_mosque_night.jpg
Abdul, waiting to see your skillful fotos of the local mosque.
April 21, 2008 at 9:48 pm
these mosques r all so gorgeous! mashallah
April 21, 2008 at 9:49 pm
Nooo … the “Dome of the Rock IS(!) a mosque and MANY people go there for prayer … I mean those who are allowed by the IOF! It is an intolerable situations …
I wish we could go together one day … I’d love to!
April 21, 2008 at 9:55 pm
M&M, Indeed
Karin, From what i read, the whole area is considered as a place for prayer. Qubba Al Sakhrah, Masjid Al Aqsa and the yard..Do you remember Imam Mosque in Isfahan? It has a place for telling Adhan and the dome works as a loudspeaker. Very amazing.

April 24, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Asalam well done my brothers and sisters, nice to see the spirit of ISLAM live and well around the world.
April 24, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Architecturally, the Blue Mosque is my favorite. The one I would most like to see in person is Al Aqsa though. I dig how many of the mosques retain much of the look and feel of the countries that they are in, especially the Chinese one. Wonderful collage of pictures Shahzarad. You certainly bring the World to your readers with posts such as these.
April 25, 2008 at 9:20 am
Hay !!
.
Where is Aleppo….?! plus our Umayyad Mosjid is way too beautiful than Damascus, I’m talking for real
April 25, 2008 at 9:23 pm
I’ve been to the mosques mentioned in Palestine, Syria, France, Spain, Turkey, Morocco and Lebanon. My favourite it is al Aksa Mosque in Al Quds. It is interesting, but many think the Dome of the Rock is al Aksa Mosque, but it isnt. Al Aksa Mosque is a small mosque near it.
April 26, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I have visited Masjidil Haram, it’s surely the best place to be in
Strangely but I still havent been in the Ubudiah mosque in Malaysia (because it’s in a state I only went twice).. but we do have many other beautiful mosques around here.
April 27, 2008 at 2:04 am
I have visited Badshahi mosque in Lahore Pakistan. It is the most beautiful mosque i’ve personally been to in my life, and the only one i’ve gone to out of the United States. There are so many of them I would love to visit. the pictures are breathtaking and thanks for sharing.

as-salaamu ‘alaikum. masjid al-faisal, is just scary, that one looks like something out of a bad dream rather than jannat.

One of the most beautiful mosques that I visited in my life is Madrassat Al Sultan Hassan in Egypt. When I walked in, it felt really peaceful. I just wanted to sit down and reflect on everything. Here are some pictures but the pictures don’t do justice

Allhamdulilah, very beautiful architecture. Looking at the variation of the architectural style of the diff mosques makes me wonder of the influence. Circular structures being of an eastern influence, Square being of a western one. Regardless of what the mosque may look like, its what goes on inside that is important. In my humble opinion the true mosque should be in the heart not in a man made structure.

July 6, 2008 at 5:48 am
well i love all mosques. all mosques have their own style and all are beautifull. i think of course mecca is the most important and greatest mosque in the world. the mosque of prophet muhammad sas in al madina is also great. but the al aqsa mosque and the dome of rock are also wonderfull and very traditional. muhammad sas went to the heavens from the dome of rock.. from the modern mosques i really like the Hassan 2. mosque in morocco al maghrib.. it’s known as the second largest mosque in the world after mecca and it’s minarett is 210 meters high. it was build over the atlantic ocean. It stands on a promontory looking out to the Atlantic, which can be seen through a gigantic glass floor. Built on reclaimed land, almost half of the surface of the mosque lies over the Atlantic water. This was inspired by the verse of the Qur’an that states “the throne of God was built on the water”. Part of floor of this facility is glass so worshippers can kneel directly over the sea; above, spotlights shine at night from the top of the minaret toward Mecca. if u take a look at the pics from wikipedia from inside and outside that it’s a bit suprising that allmost all muslims here on this thread do not recognize what a great and wonderfull mosque it is mashallah.
July 6, 2008 at 5:53 am

you have a lovely and informative blog……great going! :)))
